Rachael Liston represented the family of the late Margaret O’Doherty at an inquest into her death on the 12th and 13th January 2023.

Margaret O’Doherty was 72 years old when she passed away a number of days following a dental procedure involving dental implants.

Margaret suffered a cardiac arrest during the dental procedure. She was transferred to St Vincent’s University Hospital and the court heard evidence that the most likely cause of her cardiac arrest was due to the effect of a sedative drug, Midazolam, which she received during the dental procedure.

The Coroner recorded a verdict of medical misadventure and made recommendations that the Dental Council of Ireland review their guidelines regarding the use of sedation in a dental setting.
